(VEN) - The Nghi Son Economic Zone welcomed 29 investment projects with a total registered capital of almost VND145.19 trillion, or about US$8.54 billion, by March 2010. Of this, US$617 million was invested. Major projects that have contributed importantly to accelerating the pace of development of the zone are Nghi Son Oil Refinery Complex, Cong Thanh Cement Company, Thermopower Center Project and a metallurgy industrial zone.
Many projects have become operational in the zone such as Nghi Son Cement Company, Cong Thanh Cement Company (first phase), Nghi Son Glass Fiber Factory and Thanh Hoa Brewery.
Statistics by the Nghi Son Economic Zone Authority indicate that industrial production in the zone came to almost VND9.85 trillion from 2006-2009, tax payments VND770 billion and exports VND90 billion. The projects created more than 2,000 jobs./.
