(VEN) - Dirk Niebel, the German Development Cooperation Minister, and Richard Moore, the Deputy General Director of the Australia International Development Cooperation Agency, concluded a joint statement on March 8 in Hanoi, regarding cooperation in Vietnam.

The cooperation will focus on the environment, climate change, particularly management of coastal areas, bio-diversity protection, renewable energy and alternative energy sources in Vietnam.
Dirk Niebel said that Germany and Australia can make most of their capacity to overcome and cope with climate change in Vietnam.
Since 1990 Germany has provided more than one billion euros to Official Development Assistance (ODA) projects in Vietnam. At the 2009 Consultative Group (CG) Meeting in December 2009 in Hanoi, Germany pledged 137 million euros in ODA loan for Vietnam in the 2009-2010 fiscal year (accounting for 12.7 percent of the EU's total ODA for Vietnam).
Germany and Australia are currently developing a project in Kien Giang province, which is assisting Vietnamese agencies developing a pilot model for protecting coastal areas./.
