(VEN) - Established more than 10 years ago, the Phuoc Vinh Medical Equipment Production Company has won the trust of customers and partners by providing quality products at reasonable prices and making nonstop efforts to strengthen its prestige. Vietnam Economic News' Truong Vu spoke with Giang Mang Phuoc, the company's director, about its production situation.
Phuoc Vinh has become a reputable supplier of improved first-aid stretchers. Could you say about the advantages of this product in comparison with normal types of first-aid stretchers?
The National Office of Intellectual Property of Vietnam has recognized the improved first-aid stretcher as a useful solution and granted Patent 550 to the Phuoc Vinh Medical Equipment Production Company via Decision 6751/QD-SHTT dated July 11, 2006. For this product, the company won the second prize at the competition for the Ho Chi Minh City invention award in 2008 and a gold medal at the ASEAN+3 Techmart in 2009. The improved first-aid stretcher has a rectangular frame. It is designed and made of high quality materials to be as strong as possible when being used. When it is not used, the improved first-aid stretcher can be folded up. Though it has a simple structure, the stretcher of this kind can be used to carry patients with total weight of 350kg. Several improved first-aid stretchers can be joined with each other to form an escape/rescue ladder that can be used to move patients from danger areas to safe places quickly. The improved first-aid stretcher is sold at the price of VND2 million while imported stretchers cost about US$240 each. This is the first type of medical equipment that is manufactured in Vietnam but has equivalent quality to that of imported products of the same category, meeting the requirements of the health sector.
Could you introduce some other kinds of Phuoc Vinh's products?
In 1999 I created the first product, optometer, after some time doing research with consultancy of experienced opticians. That is a quality product and its price is less than one tenth that of imported optometers. The product has won the trust of oculists. In 2000, when HIV-AIDS was a big threat for all people, I thought I must do something to help people avoid this threat. So I did research and in late 2000 I successfully manufactured a specialized machine for use to destroy injection needles. After that, more than 5,000 machines of this type were manufactured for supply to many hospitals and clinics in Ho Chi Minh City. This type of machine can be used to burn injection needles and metal syringes quickly and safely. Currently I am doing research to create some type of support equipment for rural women, which can be used in difficult delivery cases. Thus far 90 percent of the work related to the manufacture of this type of equipment has been done. So the product will be launched soon.
Could you say something about the company's workforce?
Human resources are invaluable assets of the company. Our company has skilled, experienced engineers and enthusiastic workers. They are always willing to learn new knowledge and technology to improve their qualifications and skills so as to meet growing customer demands. Phuoc Vinh has 40 employees, 20 of whom are handicapped, and their average income is about VND3 million per month.
What is the meaning of the company's slogan: "Joint Efforts for a Better Life"?
The Phuoc Vinh Medical Equipment Production Company was established not just to make a profit. Its mission is to help people, especially handicapped children. The company not only provides handicapped children with vocational training but also creates jobs for them so that they can be employed and self-support their lives./.
