(VEN) - Vietnam's air navigation services sector has made a huge leap forward alongside economic globalization, ensuring safe flights in the Asia-Pacific region and the world as well, said Director General and CEO of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Giovanni Bisignani. To shed some light on this, Vietnam Economic News' Minh Ky spoke with the general director and chairman of the Board at the Vietnam Air Navigation Services Corporation (Vanscorp), Nguyen Xuan Hien.
Could your brief Vanscorp's major achievements in international cooperation and economic globalization in air transport over the past couples of years?
Unlike other economic and service sectors, to integrate more deeply into the world air transport industry the Vietnam’s aviation must satisfy strict requirements on human resources and material base by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). An ICAO member, the Vietnam's aviation industry, particularly the Vietnam Air Navigation Services Corporation always strictly adheres to ICAO standards. Alongside injecting capital into technological innovations, Vanscorp has joined hands with flight management organizations in regional countries to effectively expedite diverse Asia-Pacific aviation development programs. Most significant were the programs to oversee a new routes system on the East Sea airspace. Significantly, the corporation successfully implemented three phases of the reduced vertical separation minimum program ICAO had initiated that was applicable to all routes within Vietnam's flight information regions as per the region's development roadmap and conducted the controller pilot data link communications/automatic dependent surveillance (CPDLC/ADS) program in the Ho Chi Minh City flight information regions (FIR HCMC).
For its outstanding achievements in 2009 Vanscorp was conferred the Eagle Award by IATA with good comments from ICAO leadership "Vanscorp has reported sweeping changes over the past 15 years, capitalizing on efficiency, trustworthiness and customer services. Apart from maintaining close relationships with air carriers, Vanscorp holds an active role in promoting regional initiatives." In the meantime, the corporation was lauded by IATA's leadership for continuous technological innovations in broad fields of information, air navigation, surveillance and air traffic management as per ICAO's roadmap to meet ever-increasing aviation demands. Our efforts have contributed to pushing up regional and world air transport development.
A professional air navigation services provider what creative approaches has Vanscorp taken in flight management to effectively handle its tasks?
Under the motto 'Safety-Moderation-Efficiency' in the past 17 years Vanscorp has ensured safe flights in its responsible airspace, winning the trust of a great many of air carriers. To attain that success, the corporation has made gigantic efforts to strengthen its organizational and management structure and constantly innovate technical and material base. Vanscorp has applied science and technology progresses, upgraded air traffic control facilities and striven for gradual automation of the air navigation sector technological process.
Besides equipment and technology reforms, the staff members have actively applied fresh methods on air traffic management to heighten efficiency. Accordingly, after a year of test run from April 2008 Vanscorp could provide modern air navigation services under CPDLC/ADS method to partly replace surveillance/communication facilities in future air traffic management. Besides, the corporation has actively taken part in regional air transport plans bringing great economic benefits such as lowering air traffic density and saving fuel and time.
What are the corporation future development targets to be on par with rapid international aviation growth?
To better Vietnam aviation competitiveness in the world arena and ensure safe flights in the coming period Vanscorp is set to further improve its human resources by sending its staff to countries with advanced air traffic management in addition to strengthening its operational structure under the model of a one-member limited liability company, the Vietnam Air Navigation Services Corporation. In the meantime, the corporation will further upgrade air traffic management facilities to satisfy development requirements of the regional and world aviation industry. Our some big projects are in progress and will soon be completed from 2011-2012 such as the projects on building air traffic control towers at Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat international airports and building an air traffic control center in Gia Lam. Besides, the corporation will further promote production and trading to contribute more to the state coffers./.
